How many people are having this issue? I just got this system, and so far over 50% of the recordings won't playback.
The black screen on playback?
I get it occassionlly, maybe twice a week, stopping and playing again almost allways plays.
Yes, a black screen sometimes, or a frozen screen of what I was watching before I attempted to watch the recording. None of these have ever played. I contacted shaw, and they told me it was a "glitch" - that he gateway unit had not been updated before it was installed at my house. I had to have the tech person re update it from their end. They agrred to waive a weeks worth of tv service charge, and after much haggling I also got three free movie rentals. People hsould be complaining about this "glitch". They are selling us equipment that does not work properly and charging us for a service that is not functioning.
I will be monitoring whether the PVR function works properly in the future, and will continue to post updates here.
It doesn't bother me that much, if there are any episodes that just won't play, I have the internet and can find it faster (and easier) than the time to get a credit haha
Week off would be nice though
This is a known software issue. This does happen of two occasions that we are aware of:
1). Delete a recording and if you try and play back another recording within 60 seconds the black screen can occur.
- the way around it is to wait 60 seconds between deletion and playback, or play the file, get the black screen and do a stop and play again.
2) an expander isn't fully connected. This usually affects live and playback of recordings resulting in a black screen. This scenario is more apparent after a reboot of the gateway and expander and take a minute or so to fully connect back up again.
