loss of audio

We keep having the same intermittent problem with our TV/Shaw PVR - have no audio when we switch the TV back on. TV speakers are working fine, mute button is not activated, PVR setup is correct. It seems to happen after the audio has been working the night before and no one has watched TV in the interim, but the PVR has recorded a program while the TV's been off. Shaw tells me to unplug the HDMI cable, plug it back in again (have also tried reversing which end of the HDMI plug goes into the TV and which into the PVR), and then power the PVR off for 90 seconds and then switch it back on. This seems to resolve the problem for that incidence, but is not a practical solution, if we happen to be recording a 2 hr program and yet want to watch TV (with audio!) while it's recording, and is also happening far too often now. Any suggestions?
