Anyone else having issues with their PVR 630 recording Global or CityTV channel when you have selected a USA feed channel?
WOW, I guess I am the only one that is having this issue or nobody else cares that the PVR records the Canadian feed for an American feed channel.
It only happens when the show is on at the same time on a Canadian feed channel.
Funny thing is, if I start recording a show on the USA feed like channel 322 and the show is on at the same time on Global, it will record that feed. But if I exit the recording and go back to live TV, puff there is the program on the USA feed.
Those are the CRTC simusub rules
If a Canadian station showing the same program as a US station, the Canadian feed will be shown
I get the simsub rules but don't understand why it happening on the new PVR but not the old one. I can watch it live on the US channel but as soon as I record it, it records the Canadian. Does not make sense.
You watch/record the same channel number on two terminals and one gets the Canadian feed and the other american? That doesn't make sense, since the channel will be the same?
If you are watching live at a different time (time-shift, earlier or later) then yes, that makes sense, because there won't be a Canadian feed to simusub at that time
OK let try and explain this again.
At 6:00pm NCIS is on two channels, 322 CBS and 304 Global.
I set it up to record on 322 in the morning before going to work.
I get home around 6:30pm start watching the recording and it is Global 304.
Exit the recording and it is on CBS 322, start the recording back up it is Global 304.
The 322 channel, should be showing Global at that time, so regardless of which you record 322 or 304, they will both be Global at that time
If at 6:30 and you tune to 322, do you see Global commericals, or CBS commerials?
If you're using the smart recording feature, the the PVR will not necessarily record something on CBS if it's on Global. It will pick the first available channel to record a title on. *rg
If you don't have Shaw Direct Satellite at home or in the office to watch and see what I am talking about, then don't comment thinking you know how the channels work or the PVR.
Channels 320,321,322,323 are the HD east feed US channels and they ALWAYS show the US content, as well the west feeds. AND the old 530 PVR ALWAYS recorded the US content on those channels when I recorded.
The issue is the new 630 PVR not operating like that and no one at Shaw will answer me about it or admit it.
There are not too many people involved with Shaw Direct here, roryg is a moderator here from Shaw Direct, hopefully she can add something.
I usually watch the US feeds on cable too, lately, Global and CTV (in Calgary) have been running their shows earlier, so they take over the eastern feed, rather than the later western feed.
You never answered my question though, when you are watching 322 for NCIS at 6:00, do you see Canadian commericals or CBS commericals?
If that show is doing it, I will check a Shaw Direct connected TV next week (my uncle has Shaw Direct)
Hi bigjim3553. kevinds is actually 100% correct; you should be seeing the simultaneous substitutions whether you're recording or watching something live on the American nets. Not every show will have this, of course, but if it's something that is airing on the Canadian and American channel at the same time, we'll substitute the American channel with the Canadian one as per the CRTC's guidelines.
Presumably, the DVR 530 HD did not due this awhile back because the substitutions did not happen on nearly as widespread a basis as they do now; we have more substitutions in place at this time, so it shouldn't be an issue of one model of PVR doing it and the other one not; it's simply that it wasn't occurring as often in the past as it is now. *rg
OK. This will be my last post and I will be leaving this board and deleting my profile.
To "kevinds", on 322 it is US commercials if you take the time to actually read my post.
To "[shaw]rory", kinda scary with your reply of the simsubing and CRTC being the answer when those US feeds actually show the US commercials. And you work for Shaw. WOW.
And second, I just talked to a higher level technical guy from Shaw and it not something he has heard of but said it definitely should not be doing that. He said if I have it set to record a program on a specific channel and not all channels, it is suppose to record that channel. And he said it is definitely not to do with simsubing, but the PVR not working correctly and recording on the wrong channel.
Again, if the channel is being substituted, it will show Canadian ads, not American. I'm sorry if you disagree with this, but it is the case. If you were told otherwise, you were misinformed.
