Limited access to digital channels

I have an older analogue TV operating as a second set in a bedroom.  The main set in our living room is digital and is  is connected to the digital box.  Both sets are on coaxial cable.  The older set is not connected directly to the digital box.  Until recently on the older set we received all the channels available on the main set.  An announcement was received from Shaw on the older set that we now need a digital box to access all the channels that we were used to receiving.  I am not sure why I need a second digital box to receive all the channels.  Can you please direct me to information that will explain what's happened and what alternatives I have in regaining full service on the older set?
