I keep getting a message when trying to log in using windows live mail that says "can't find host/server 'shawmail.vc.shawcable.net' " I've used this for years. What is Shaw doing now?
I just tried to ping it. No response. Sounds like it crashed or something.
As far as I am aware, all the shawmail.xx.shawcable.net servers are the same now
What IP did you get when you tried to ping it?
Pinging shawmail.glb.shawcable.net [126.96.36.199] with 32 bytes of data:Reply from 188.8.131.52: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=251Reply from 184.108.40.206: bytes=32 time=53ms TTL=251Reply from 220.127.116.11: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=251Reply from 18.104.22.168: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=251
I was able to ping it. What happens when you try using the IP address?
I tried both ways, and still no go.
I threw some feelers out but haven't heard of this issue as widespread. Do either of you (or anyone else who's having this issue) use a particular third party router? If we can find something in common in your setups, we should find that is causing this.
Can't find is usually a DNS issue,
Are you using any different security software lately, or any updates that might have blocked your email program from accessing the internet?
