Had my HD non-PVR box installed earlier today, and it was working after installation. Now the box only displays OCAP and will not send signal or anything else to TV. What's the problem??
OCAP is a software issue, unplug the power for 30 seconds then plug back in, see if that helps
Thanks, i unplugged the power source for 10 mins, plugged it back in and let it do its magic. Voila, works now. What's bad now is that the remote doesn't function as before. Menu button won't work and etc.
Hey tatsu666, glad to hear you've got a picture, but are the remote buttons still not working? Are you able to use the buttons on the front of the box to control it?
Let me know,
Some of the buttons works like it should, but like i said, the Menu button won't work. Distance between remote and cable box don't matter.
Try unplugging it again
kevinds is correct, it may require another reboot.
If you haven't rebooted it again yet - I am wondering if the "A" button on your remote lets you pull up a menu?
Nope, ABCD buttons doesn't do jack. And the box went to OCAP again today, it's really pissing me off. Telephone line tech didn't help, so we arranged someone to come on Sunday. Why is it impossible for Shaw to admit it's a faulty box and save some labour and time?
These boxes are reliant on a strong signal as well given how the box operates, the tech would be able to determine if there is a signal issue as well not just a box issue. I can take a further look at your account to see if we left out any troubleshooting steps. I'll send you a message to your ^ Inbox above.
The box goes back to OCAP after a while. Cycled the power source, let it boot, APP, then it works. Then remote still won't behave fine. And while programs are showing, the tech said he's seeing my box isn't responding on his end. After a view hours, the box would just go back to OCAP.
So i've got a new box on Sunday. Until now, i've seen ONE ocap, and i actually saw it reboot on its own and got stuck at OCAP on Monday evening. But until now, it's fine. There can't be two faulty boxes in a row...what's wrong??
Keep up posted on if it happens again, I can't think of a specific reason why two boxes in a row would be doing the same thing. Do you usually disconnect the power to the boxes when they are not in use? Did a tech visit and check the signal before swapping the box?
Yes, the tech check the signals and is using the best signal cable already. I don't unplug it unless i have to reboot it because of the OCAP screen. But i do turn it off with the remote when i don't use it.
Ok good to know, has the OCAP issue returned at all since Monday?
yup, approx once a day.
The next time this happens please note down the time and let me know. I am going to look in to this further at our end and get back to you.
I've jotted down some of the times.

These are the moments I discovered the box saying OCAP. This is really bugging me and am seriously stopping my business with Shaw.

Try the first step, then the subsequent steps if it doesn't work:
1. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to reboot it.
2. Call Shaw to ensure your PVR is set for three-way communication.
3. Call Shaw to reset (reinitialize) your PVR.
