my shaw installer said I just plug my phone jack into the modem, but my phone instructions say I need a DSL filter and to plug it into a wall jack. I'm confused.
You'd only need a DSL filter if you currently have DSL internet service. The filter prevents interference between the DSL signal for internet on the phone line and the frequencies used for telephone communication. If you have our internet service, there would be no need for a filter and you can plug your phone into a wall jack or directly into the back of our phone modem if that's convenient for you.
If you do have DSL internet service, your internet service provider should supply you with a filter.
Hope this helps.
