Where did you get the SMC8014WN from? Did it come from Shaw orginally?
Do you already have active cable/internet service?
It came from shaw originally, I got the modem from value village in Saskatoon, and I am not currently a subscriber but the coax is here still from previous.
No currently a subscriber, yes, you will need a visit
Which internet plan were you looking at? Depending on which speed, that modem may or may not work. Shaw does provide a free modem rental (depending on the speed chosen you may not get a WiFi one though)
Also need Shaw to check the serial number out, making sure it is 'allowed' to be added, not reported lost/stolen, or the previous owner saying they were giving it away.
If on the odd chance that the modem is on one of those ng lists, it wont cause me any trouble will it? I didn't even consider that to be a option when I bought it? I haven't really decided on a Internet package as of yet...
I would need it primarily for uploading photos, emails, Facebook, light gaming, and moderate live video broadcasts, maybe you can give me a opinion of what would best suit my useage?
You are going to be broadcasting video?
Minimum 25, depending on where you live, 50 (if it has the 5 mbps upload). If 50 that modem won't work.
No just watching live feed broadcasts. When I say uploading photos on average I would be uploading 100-300 photos at a time upto four times a month and at least once a monfile each photo being average min 5MB
Still 25 or 50 then, I'd be leaning towards 50... Depends on your budget...
