When recording a program using my VCR I have video, but there is no audio. This is happening with increasing frequency.
How do you have the digital box and the VCR connected? Is there a coaxial cable running between them or are you using a composite red/white/yellow cable? If composite, is the cable going directly forom the digital box to the TV or does it go through a stereo system first?
I have co ax hooked up to the VCR and digital box. One thing I noticed that makes me think this isn't a hook up issue is that when I check to see if something is recording properly, (by turning on the TV) if I find there is no sound, I press "exit" on the remote and the sound comes back on. The VCR playback is silent until this moment on the tape. Might there be some silly setting I'm missing? I frequently have to unplug the digital box as it stops responding to the remote at least once a week. Thanks for responding.
It might be a setting on the dct700. I'll send you a private message and we'll try resetting it.
Are you turning the DCT700 'off' inbetween uses? I know the PVRs, if they auto come to do a recording, they come on muted. The DCT700 shouldn't do this with the VCR timers function, but I have never tested it (never had a VCR, nor used the timers back when I had my DCT700).
If you pushing Power on the remote to put it into standby, if you instead leave it 'on' does it still record muted?
I turn the unit off when not in use. I'm not sure what you mean by "stand by". There's no button on my remote that says stand by. But there have been times when I'm watching TV and it tells me a recording is about to start and when I go back to the taped recording, no sound.
Power button on the remote is "stand by"
So if you don't push the power button for the DCT700 when you walk away, only turn off the TV, does that stop it from happening?
