my firewall was off and I couldn't turn it on today; it happened from last week, whenever I started the internet, but I still could turn it on at that time; but not now, how can I do?
Is this a message from the McAfee Firewall? If so...
The McAfee firewall is dependant on the Windows firewall to function. Often, problems with the McAfee firewall are caused by a problem with the Windows firewall.
Out of curiousity, check and see if the windows firewall service is running by going to run (windows key + r) and typing in services.msc. Look for Windows Firewall in the list and check to see if it's started. If it's not, that's the source of the problem. Please respond with what you find and we'll see how we can help.
Sorry to take so long to reply, I followed your suggestion; both firewall are started -- window and McAfee. So far whenever I started to use the computer, the McAfee would show "Firewall is off" and a pop-up has the "turn on" button for me to click on it and " Firewall is on". Sometimes I have to click a few time to get it on.
I got tired of that issue and have since stopped using it. There are other free options out there that do not suffer these issues.
Though I simply have gone back to using nothing for real time scanning. 10 years online and I have never had a virus/Trojan. *Knocks on wood*
Sounds good as long as you don't have Java installed LOL
I use antivirus and real-time-scanning but minimal firewalls, I have more outbound firewalls setup than inbound, on my router.
Sorry for the delay in my response back.
Good to hear that the McAfee and Windows Firewalls are reporting as running in the Windows Services menus. That means it's likely an issue with the McAfee interface (McAfee Security Center) incorrectly reporting the status.
Please uninstall McAfee using this removal tool. Once uninstalled, please visit the Shaw Online Customer Centre to redownload and install McAfee. Hopefully this will resolve the issue of McAfee reporting the wrong Firewall status.
If you have any further issues, please respond here or send me a private message. We can setup a phone call for you to get assistance with this issue. Do not include any personal information (account or phone number) in the forum, only in a private message.
Thanks. I will follow the direction once I get time .
