On my iPhone, I suddenly started getting certificate warnings that pop.shaw.ca and the certificate offered (signed as wm.shaw.ca) is mismatched.
I accepted it anyhow, guessing there were new ones issued at some point?
Hmm, first I have heard of this. I'll see what I can find out for you.
You'll want to disable SSL, Secure Sockets Layer, for the POP (incoming) server. This should be in the settings app. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then your email account.
Alternatively, if you have the options of "Accept all SSL certificates," this should work too.
I spend a lot of time on WiFi which is unencrypted and would much rather have SSL so my password isn't going plain text across unknown networks. I accepted the certificate, so all is good. I just found it curious today it was barking about that name mismatch. I've never noticed it complain before that I can remember
I just spoke to a customer with the same thing, a "certificate mismatch" error on her mac mail, which prevented her from sending email via mail.shaw.ca. After verifying the credentials of the account, we simply reopened mac mail, and chose to connect anyway, which worked.
I'm guessing certificates are renewed at regular intervals, and occasionally the renewal doesn't synchronize smoothly. Maybe somebody can weigh in with more certainty.
As for people looking for email configurations, this is a great page:
