Does Shaw Cable currently offer 7-packs of "pick n pay" channels for 7.95?
that would be a wonderful feature...
7 Packs do exists. It is limited to select channels, but it's a great way to customize your package if your interested in certain types of content.
It would be nice to be able to subscribe to any channel by simply paying whatever the channel owner thought the product was worth, plus a straightforward and transparent delivery fee to the provider, be it cable, satellite, internet or what have you; all things in good time.
wk-dave, I believe this is the future as cable companies make themselves more and more obsolete and networks stream direct to their customers , skipping the middle man.
Discounts for having multiple pick and pay channels will vary depending on your base package. If you have a legacy channel packages like Basic or Classic TV, the rate for 7 pick and pay channels will be $8.00 effective September 1. If you are on a newer package like Personal or Premiere TV, the discount is based on groups of 2 pick and pay channels. I should also note that not all pick and pay channels qualify for the discount and not all channels can be added as pick and pay.
where are these located on your website? been playing around trying to build a bundle, and I don't even see this as an option.....
I can't even find anything on the website that doesn't include equipment.
If you are looking at Shaw Television — Find the complete list of channels in your area they would be listed as Speciality Channel. If you are using the Bundle Builder they should be listed in the Step 1 of TV options. There should be a section called Pick n Pay that you can expand. I'm not sure if the Builder calculates the discount for subscribing to multiple channels though.
ok found it thanx, it says nothing about 7 for $8. and you should change your post to, MOST channels can not be purchased pick and pay, and nothing that could be called even remotely popular. also it doesn't say which qualify for the discount....
So it appears that it would cost a 'grandfathered' subscriber $8 for 7 pick & pay channels but it would cost a new subscriber at least twice as much for the same channels. Correct?
The price would be about $7 more. The price for 6 channels is the exact same, and customers on the new packages also have the option of adding theme packs of channels which legacy packages don't support.
you mention "theme packs" like they are a positive thing.... with the older packages, theme packs aren't needed, because most of those channels are included for less. the reasons not to "upgrade" keep stacking up
The old packages can also include a lot of channels you may not be interested in. This might not be the case for everyone, but for a lot of people theme packs make more sense. The cost will vary depending on what types of content your interested in, but in my experience people can save a lot of money with Personal TV.
because there is a lack of flexibility with the theme packs. they pose the same problem. if I want 3 channels but they are all in different packs, then I am still left paying for a bunch of channels I am uninterested in.
Hi again mpa
I do hear you on the way channels are laid out if there are specific ones you wanted. I recently posted a bit of an explanation on this topic in this thread here: Re: Has Shaw ever thought of offering "a la carte" channels? Sooo tired of paying for channels I never watch!
More can be done! I understand some channels are forced together, (has Shaw asked the CRTC to make any changes to this?) But mostly the packages are choices made for us by Shaw. I am sure there could be more flexibility offered if you wanted.
The older pacakges, Tiers 1, 2, 3 and sometimes 4, were in place of a 'theme pack' but really, the same thing
SpaceHD, DiscoveryHD, BravoHD, (and now ComedyHD) are $26 for the tiers to get the three/four channels
