Huge latency problems in the evenings

I recently moved into a new place and we just had a fresh install of TV/Internet etc and everything works quite well until the evenings and then goes nuts.

All we have is the shaw home gateway thing and I'm using powerline networking to connect from it directly to my pc upstairs.

I was playing call of duty on a server in New Jersey (gameservers.com sever farm there) and it was going quite well until 11:19pm(MST) suddenly I constantly got the "network cable unplugged" icon in game and couldn't even move around. My ping in game showed as 999.

I quit and ran pingtest.net to a server on the east coast of USA and got: http://www.pingtest.net/result/85142825.png

This has been happening almost every evening for the last week or so. I live in South Edmonton and would be more than willing to provide any additional information to resolve this issue.

*edit* testing just a little while later at 11:35: http://www.pingtest.net/result/85143210.png
