my ip address has been hacked, says CSIS blocked it...how do i get this ip address changed?
ok, so i rebooted my computer, and started it is safe mode, had a look at the McAfee and it is not the Shaw one...so I downloaded Avast 2013, ran a scan, so far so good! I am going to take it in to a technician to take a look. I believe it is the Mozilla Firefox that is causing the issue. I want the Internet Explorer updated, thank you, Tlw
Have you got any more details on this? Where did you see this message?
Depending on the situation, you may not need to change your IP, but if you do want to If you do want to change your IP, one way to try it is to unplug your modem for at least 4 hours to allow the cache to clear on our end. This doesn't guarantee a new IP address though.
I was viewing videos on you tube, then I get this screen saying that my ISP has blocked my account, and I need to pay a fine to unblock it....weird?
Does my computer need to be hooked directly to the modem? Im on WIFI right now?
That sounds like your computer might be infected. Have you got an antivirus application you can run? I'd recommend running a full scan at this point.
i cannot get the screen to go away, tried restarting the computer and the CSIS screen will not go away...I cannot run an antivirus, should I try turning off the modem for a few hours? or ?
Pay a fine to unblock, yes, I have delt with that infection a few times.. It can sometimes be very difficult to get rid of, if you have an anti-virus program installed, I would get in touch with their support immediately...
why should i pay? i didn't do anything wrong? seems like a virus, may need an expert to clean it up?
If you do have an antivirus application installed (Norton, McAfee, etc...) and you're unable to run it, try contacting support from your antivirus provider for assistance with this. If you have our Shaw Secure (by McAfee) service installed though, then this is something that we can help you with, as we support our product fully.
yes it is the McAfee, I tried to open it, and the CSIS screen appeared before it had a chance to load it....do I need to connect direct to the modem to fix this? as I am running wifi right now?
It won't matter if you're connected directly to the modem or running wirelessly at this point.
Are you at all able to see the main McAfee window when you try to open it? If it's our version, it'll have our Shaw logo at the top. If it's ours, then we can certainly support it, but if not then you'd need to speak with McAfee directly, or consult a PC technician for assistance.
What I would suggest regardless is that you give us a call at 1.888.472.2222 or chat with us at www.shaw.ca/chat so that we can speak with you in real-time about this and start a screen sharing session if possible to help. If it's our version of McAfee, we'll help you with this, no problem.
Good to hear tlw, I hope this takes care of it for you, but if you're still seeing signs of infection or if Avast finds something it can't remove, since you have McAfee, they should also be able to provide support if you have a subscription, or you could take it to a technician as well.
Happened to me. Use Malwarebytes AntiMalware.
You can download the trial for free and it will get rid of this nasty infection.
I didn't say you should pay, I was confirming it was asking you to... Sorry.
Definately don't pay them for infecting your computer with a virus.
