Docis 3.0 question

I currently have a old Docis 2.0 Motorola SurfBoard modem 5100 series. That is a shaw modem. I currently have the old high speed 25 internet package. I am considering upgrading my internet to the broadband 50 package. Though that requires a upgraded, to the wifi combo one. Which i am not really looking forward to.

I talked to a shaw tech support online. They tell me you no longer provide just the basic modem. Which now would be a 61xx series Motorola.

I do not like the combo setup or the cisco brand. I have my own router. I know you can put the shaw one into bridge mode. But i don't want it. So i asked the tech support if i can go buy my own and have it activated. I was told its not possible. Which i do understand.

Since the docis 3 modems were provided in the past. I should be able to get one if requested?
