I'm guessing everybody is tired of reporting 3510 bugs these days, while we wait for the next software update, but...
I've noticed offline/online messages popping up again the past few days - most recently tonight 9/11 ~9pm PDT
Had several last night.
Also, we were watching a recoded movie last night, and suddenly the view switched to the recording window, showing the movies, etc. we have recorded, while still playing the sound for the movie.
I had to turn off the POS and turn it on again to get back to viewing the movie.
Maybe this was related to the offline/online icons.
....aaand... a couple more spurts of offline/online messages tonight
i thought we had seen the last of these montha ago and that the underlying causes had been squashed?
FWIW, we get the offline / online messages too. It *always* happens on the hour. IE we will get an Offline message at 8:00pm and then at 8:01pm we will get the Online message.
It happened twice last night at 8 and 9pm. I haven't correlated with a recording starting or stopping, but I suspect that to be the case.
Nearest I can tell there are no undesired results of it going Offline except for the huge window covering the middle of the screen. We are almost always watching a recording when this happens.
yes, now that you mention it they do seem to happen around the top of the hour - last night around 8pm, and 9pm then again 11pm if I recall.
and several similar times a few previous days.
back around April or May, I recall the Shaw mods said this was a top priority and they had found something on the server side causing these bursts of messages. Then it seemed to be resolved for several months, I probably didn't see any most of the summer. not sure why they are appearing again
The same thing has happened to me the last two nights - this is after a tech came out last Fri and did cable cleanup and swithched out my HDPVR. I had no problems for two days but yesterday happened several time on the hour and failed to record three recordings including final of Amazing Race Canada which ticked me off to no end
Offline eight times between today and yesterday. One would hope that the next firmware update (that's right, I haven't quite abandoned all hope yet) will provide an option to suppress the dialog box, since it doesn't seem to be anything more than a Pavlovian prompt to press buttons. Ideally, it would cure the offlining altogether, but I won't be betting the farm on that.
What's that I see a few feet away? Oh, it's the end of my rope.
I posted some more observations about the recent offline/online messages in a separate unrelated thread here, but for reference I'll summarize here for completeness:
recent offline/online instances all seem to only occur when the following 3 conditions are met:
- time of day is exactly the top of the hour, AND
- a recording is set to start at the top of the hour, AND
- you are watching a different channel than the recording about to start
The unit MAY* then go offline at the top of the hour, and then online again at :01 past the hour
At different times of day, the offline/online messages don't seem to occur. perhaps this all has something to do with the box phoning home every hour on the hour?
*note: even if all 3 conditions above are met, I do NOT always get an offline condition at 00
I have tested several times over the past couple days and several times failed to reproduce the message at top of the hour even though the 3 conditions were met. so there's additionally something else going on. it might be that if there is another recording ending just before the top of the hour, the offline/online error does not follow at 00? but I don't have conclusive evidence of that
also, there were several months of free of offline messages where I know I was watching TV when recordings were starting on other channels. So something else in the past several days has triggered these conditions again
