DCX3510-M: weak analog audio output.

My DCX3510 produces an audio signal that is very quiet. I am sending it through an amplifier, which has to be maxed out to get conversation-level volume out of the speakers.

I measured the audio signal coming out of the PVR with an oscilloscope. The amplitude is typically only about 30 millivolts (on any channel I have tried), with occasional transient peaks of over 40 mV. So this is more than 20 dB below the typical 400 mV line level in consumer equipment; no wonder it is quiet!

(I'm using the scope correctly with 1:1 range on the probe, so it is not 300 mV being divided by 10).

All my audio devices, like the PC and smartphone, can drive the amplifier much louder.

Do I have a unit with faulty audio output, or are they all like this?
