Adding a DIR-815 to my Shaw Wireless on the same SSID

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to add a second WiFi point in my house. I have the Shaw CISCO wireless router, and have been wanting to connect my old d-link (also have a brand new one too...) in order to extend the range of my network (same SSID) to the upstairs of my house. I can run an Ethernet cable from the CISCO to where the d-link will be placed. Again, same SSID so it is the same network throughout my house and I can take my laptop and phone where and not have to connect to two different networks. How can I set this up? Please and thanks!!
