Recently had a problem receiving email on my iphone and had some help with a Shaw CSR. When it came to SSL in outgoing server I told him it was off and he said OK.
Does it matter. In your Featured Content it shows to have it on??
Depends which port and settings you are using.
If you are on a Shaw internet connection, SSL Off, Port 25 no authentication
If you are not on Shaw internet (when trying to send email), SSL On, Port 587, authentication password
Either will work when using Shaw internet, only one will work when not.
I came across this that might help with your setup:
Yes I know - that is why I wrote the post - I read that and saw it said SSL ON but in setting up my email the CSR tech told me to leave it OFF.
So I wanted a clarification as to it.
It is working both ways but why does Shaw say to do it one way and another Shaw tech says the other way.
So curious more than anything.
Probably because having it one way or the other worked for whoever told you one way or the other. Another thing would be how email is accessed. At home one a computer, the settings are different than on a smartphone or tablet, if memory serves.
Yes I was using port 587 but as the Shaw post said it had to be on but I had it off so it got me to wondering why?
Anyway thanks for the info on it.
