How do I hook up an external drive to a DCX3400-M?
With the DCX 3400, hooking up an external drive is basically "plug and play," meaning it recognizes it as it is plugged in. You should get a prompt indicating that a drive was attached, and that's about it. An eSATA connection from hard drive to HD box is the only supported type. It may be necessary to power cycle the HD box for it to work, but usually not.
We have a document with more detailed information on this which can be found here: Shaw PVR Expander Guide
Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
