Colour won't change in Acquire Signal Box Shaw Direct

We signed up for the Shaw Direct vacation package this summer. Thought it would be nice to watch some TV when it is raining while camping or for those important foot ball games. But we are having a heck of a time with it. When we go to tune in the satellite signal there is a little box beside the bar that shows your signal strength that should start out red and turn yellow to green as you get closer to acquiring the signal. Now when this works we can usually find the signal in less than 5 minutes and get 95% or better strength here in Southern Alberta. However the problem is getting that little box to even change colour. Sometimes it starts out green sometimes it starts out red and you can point the dish anywhere you want including straight into the ground and the colour doesn't change. At first I thought the problem was with the dish itself but after much experimenting and observation the problem appears to be with the receiver. Basically if you move it just right or sometimes give it a quick shake then that little box on the tune in screen will start to change colour again and we can find the signal. But sometimes it just doesn't want to work at all. Obviously there is a hardware problem here somewhere (we have tried many different cables and the problem is persistent) so I am wondering if anyone else had this problem and what their solution to it was.
