Modem Issue

Hello,

 

My family and I have been been using shaw internet for some years. Through this time I have not changed my modem as out internet has been upgraded etc. Recently our internet has been going in and out and our general internet speed has been iffy. Is this due to our modem being around 7 years~ old? If so do we need to switch it? If we do need to get a new one how would we do this?
