I can always go on Shaw Open in Vancouver downtown but today, I kept getting this message: Unable to join the network "ShawOpen", why is that?
Hey there hechush
I'll take a look into this for you. A couple questions first to narrow things down:
Are you able to confirm that your login credentials are correct by logging in with the same email address at http://webmail.shaw.ca?
If so, does this issue happen at multiple (any) hotspots, or just a certain one?
I am able to login using my webmail.shaw.ca
A few locations, for e.g. I can always go on ShawOpen wifi around Robson Square area but now i couldn't and I get the 'Unable to join the network' message.
And I couldn't even get the ShawOpen wifi network...
Alright. Is the error coming up when you attempt to login to the network (using your @shaw.ca email info)? Or is your device not even picking up the network over WiFi properly in the first place?
Not even picking up the network when it usually can.
I see, so not a login issue then.
Do you know if any other devices are able to pick it up? Maybe you have a secondary device you could try, or a friend that could try it. I haven't heard of any other issues with that hotspot so I'm wondering if the problem is specific to the one device in question.
I think the ShawOpen wifi signal at this particular hotspot has became weaker than before, that's why I can't even detect it now, not to mention there's an error message 'Unable to join the network'...
These are the access points I see around Robson Square area, nothing close by, not sure why you were able to connect before, perhaps something is obstructing the signal to where you are currently.
The closest Shaw Open access point from UBC Robson Square to the left is Mobile Republic on Hornby street and Fresh Slice Pizza further away on Robson street; there's also a Waves Coffee on the corner of Howe and Smithe with a Shaw Go access point and a Subway on Hornby street has Shaw Open as well.
On a side note, if you have a location you want to suggest for a Shaw Go WiFi access point, please do send us your suggestion from the link on this page: http://shaw.ca/wifi/locations/. And you can also look up access point locations on there or download our Shaw Go WiFi mobile finder app here: Shaw Go WiFi Finder App.
