I can not figure out how to publish my website for the public to see. I have my files load up to ftp.shaw.ca, but I can't seem to publish to my webspace...
Uploading to the ftp space is publishing your files
Did you use index.html or index.htm ? I don't remember which (or both) Shaw wants the index page to be...
What software are you using to publish/upload?
I used index.html
I used WYSIWYG web builder 9.
It all works when I click the links through the ftp space. Its just that no one else can view it, which is a problem seeing as this is a school project and I was informed that shaw is "super user friendly"...
I would recommend using an FTP client to copy all of your files to your hard drive, remove them from your account on the server then re-upload them, clear your browser's cache and check your site again. If this doesn't work, can you reply with the address of your Webspace so we can check it from here, and perhaps a screen shot of what you see when you try to access it?
With regards to the level of user-friendliness, unfortunately this won't really apply to our older Webspace service, since it's FTP access only and offers 20MB of storage. We do however, have our newer Webspace service at www.shawwebspace.ca. It's more of a GUI driven option and not quite the same as just uploading files to our servers, although it's definitely more accessible and user-friendly.
If you manually type in one of the files, a picture or something, does it appear.
My first guess is (and you will need an FTP client to confirm) is that your files were uploaded to a folder in your webspace, instead of the main folder.
