SMTP error

I am having trouble getting the SMTP server to respond to me. It did work then I had to change my password and the receiving from Shaw does work on Pop.Shaw.ca but the sending doesn't work with the new password or old password. I am using Thunderbird for E-mail because it manages multiple E-mail accounts well.If I set it up for SMTP on SSl/TLS and the normal password it times out if I try doing with no security it keep asking for my password a over and over again.
