Why do I loose internet 2 or 3 times a day?
I'm sure we can find out what's causing this for you. When you notice the interruption, can you tell me if you see the lights on your modem change? Also, are you using the Shaw wireless modem or is it possible you've connected your own router?
I'm using Shaw modem. A desktop never looses internet. Only my wifi on laptop.
If you're using the Shaw WiFi modem and only having trouble with the wireless connection, the first thing I'd recommend is to try another wireless channel, as shown here How to Change the Wireless Channel on Your Shaw Wireless Modem.
If this doesn't help, just let me know.
Hello. I changed from Auto channel 6 to manual channel 11. So far is good.
Changing the channel has not helped. I'm going to try my own router.
If you haven't already switched to your own router, another trick you may want to try as well is changing the channel width in the settings from auto to 20 Mhz only. I have the cisco Wifi modem as well, and this helped hugely in my apartment with tonnes of wifi interference to prevent wifi drop offs.
If you are going to try your own router (if mikb's suggestion of using 20MHz channel width specifically didn't help), please let us know as we'll want to bridge the modem first. This will ensure it is acting only as a modem and not a router as well, as you generally do not want to be running two routers.
I went to try the 20MHz channel width setting but Cisco site won't accept my login info. I'm not impressed.
The username should be cusadmin and the default password will be on the modem itself. If that's not working, you can restore the modem to default with step 3 here. Otherwise, if this does not help, please let us know and we'll help bridge your modem so you can try your own router.
I reset router to 20MHz channel width and the signal loses have been much reduced. So far it is more acceptable.
Nice, good to hear that Terry. Hopefully this is a permanent solution, but do let us know if you're seeing frequent drops that you find unacceptable.
